{"id":677,"date":"2013-06-07T20:02:05","date_gmt":"2013-06-07T20:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/www.soulmatesecret.com\/wabisabilove\/?p=677"},"modified":"2014-06-22T19:17:15","modified_gmt":"2014-06-22T19:17:15","slug":"rings-dings-and-pings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arielleford.com\/wabisabilove\/2013\/06\/07\/rings-dings-and-pings\/","title":{"rendered":"My Addiction: Rings, Dings and Pings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"\/wabisabilove\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/RingsDingsandPings.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-678\" style=\"margin: 3px 6px;\" title=\"RingsDingsandPings\" src=\"\/wabisabilove\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/RingsDingsandPings-223x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"223\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.arielleford.com\/wabisabilove\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/RingsDingsandPings-223x300.jpg 223w, https:\/\/www.arielleford.com\/wabisabilove\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/RingsDingsandPings.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 223px) 100vw, 223px\" \/><\/a>Dear Wabi Sabi Artisans,<\/p>\n<p>In the past sixty seconds, as I sit at my desk, I have heard the crashing of the ocean waves, birds chirping, the dog across the street barking, a car passing by and a multitude of electronic rings, dings and pings that alert me to incoming phone calls (both landline and cell phone), skype chats, text messages, emails, and Facebook IM\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Each of these sounds, from my myriad electronic gear, has its own unique tone and elicits a different physiological response.<\/p>\n<p>I smile when I hear the ding of the text.<\/p>\n<p>I cringe when my cell phone rings (I have a blinged-out Blackberry and it hurts my ear to talk on the phone but it makes it easier to find my phone when it\u2019s deep in my handbag\u2026go figure.)<\/p>\n<p>I sigh when my landline rings because these days it\u2019s generally a computer- generated robo call or a telemarketer\u2026<\/p>\n<p>And, depending on my stress level, I can be happy or annoyed when the emails land\u2026..<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m no scientist but I do know that this just can\u2019t be good for my nervous system.\u00a0 Like Pavlov\u2019s dog, I am now trained to respond to all of these sounds.<\/p>\n<p>The simple solution is to turn them all off (which I do by 8pm most nights when they get placed on the kitchen counter to be re-charged) but sometimes, when I get up in the middle of the night for a glass of water, I just can\u2019t resist taking a peek to see what might have come in.\u00a0 Will it be good news or bad?<\/p>\n<p>I am in serious need of a tech detox\u2026.. I think I will start with a 24 hour one.\u00a0 This Sunday.\u00a0 One full day.\u00a0 No phone. No Email. No Internet.
