Wear \u201cRose Colored Glasses\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Research by Sandra Murray, a psychologist at the University of Buffalo, reveals that putting on \u201crose colored <a href=\"\/wabisabilove\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Rose-Glasse2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-219\" title=\"Rose Glasse\" src=\"\/wabisabilove\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/Rose-Glasse2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a>glasses\u201d and <strong>idealizing our partner actually leads to more happiness and satisfaction in relationship.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>In fact, the happiest couples focus on what\u2019s right and not on what\u2019s wrong.<\/strong><\/em> This is also known as the Pygmalion effect, the phenomenon in which the greater the expectation placed upon people, the better they perform. It\u2019s a form of<a href=\"\/wabisabilove\/2011\/08\/08\/in-praise-of-imperfection\/ \" target=\"_blank\"> self-fulfilling prophecy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many years ago a study was done in schools where three teachers were told specific information about their students.<\/p>\n<p>The first teacher was told her students had all tested with a high level IQ.<\/p>\n<p>The second teacher was told her students were all very average.<\/p>\n<p>The third teacher was told her students had learning disabilities and had below average IQ\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the school year the teacher who was told her students had \u201chigh level IQ\u2019s\u201d discovered that they all tested exceptionally well. And, conversely the teacher who held little hope for her students discovered her kids tested badly. \u00a0The teacher with the \u201caverage\u201d <strong>students also discovered they performed as expected.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As mature adults, we get to <a href=\"\/wabisabilove\/2011\/11\/08\/the-wabi-sabi-of-stress\/ \" target=\"_blank\">choose our thoughts and beliefs<\/a> so why not intentionally intend and expect the best out of ourselves, and our partners? \u00a0<em><strong>Why not wear \u201crose-colored glasses?\u201d \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>(One disclaimer here, this is not an invitation to go into denial or accept bad behavior or harmful situations.
